WBIR News Director Bill Shory
From the News Director:
I want to thank everyone for all the kind words and constructive criticism you've sent us since our HD transition. We've been working hard on this change, and we're glad it means enough for all of you to take the time to write. I also wanted to take few minutes to explain a few of the thoughts that went into the design of our new set.
Our main goal from the beginning was to design a set that focuses attention on the anchors and the stories they're delivering, not the background. We deeply love and appreciate the scenery of East Tennessee, but we feel the best way to feature that is the with the video our talented photojournalists capture - not with a static backdrop. By eliminating the scenic photos from the main set, and going to a background that contains only subtle imagery, we hope to eliminate any distractions from the content of the newscasts.
We spent countless hours discussing the backdrop and testing numerous versions on camera. I can tell you that the current version looks fantastic on the monitors here in our station. However, no matter how many tests we ran, there was no way to know what it would look like when it reached your home - until it actually did.
That's why we're really fortunate to have viewers like you. We know that you will care enough to let us know what you think, and we're grateful that you do. The feedback that you're giving us right now will guide us as we continue to improve our look. After all, this isn't about what we want... it's about what you want.
So please keep the comments coming, and stay tuned as we continue making changes to serve you better.
Thanks for watching,
