Knoxville's Dogwood Arts Festival will soon be in full bloom.
Even though the dogwood trees bloomed early, there's still plenty to see and do over the next few weeks.
The dogwood trails, which wind through some of the area's most beautiful neighborhoods, open Wednesday. Special events in Market Square and other areas around town begin this weekend. For a complete calendar of events, visit this website.
This is the 52nd year for the Dogwood Arts Festival, which was started after a New York newspaper reporter called Knoxville "the ugliest city in America" after a visit in 1947. Citizens rallied, and began a beautification project that resulted in the dogwood trails.
