Thursday, purple sharpies and post-it notes created awareness for cancer at the University of Tennessee.

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network set up shop on the pedestrian walkway at the school. Trying to gain some awareness for cancer and the sequestration that might happen on March 1st.

The threat of "sequestration" or mandatory federal cuts could set cancer research back a decade, says Michael Holtz. This is said to me as Holtz carries around a device he has so aptly names Doris, that gives him medicine in doses. Also yesterday was a milestone; he just finished treatment for his own cancer.

So an awareness close to his job and his heart.

Thursday whoever walked by was offered a chance to post something on a note. At the end of the day hope was spelled out simply in post-it notes and poster board. No matter the technology, awareness of the disease and the fight against it is needed.

The colorful square contained names, questions and hope for the future and the past.

To learn more about the funding might be able to help.
