Knox County Schools is getting some national recognition for its healthy lunches. It's featured in First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move campaign blog.
The post boasts Knox County's new healthy lunch standards, which include more option and kid favorites on the menu, and more whole grains, fruits and veggies. In the blog, the school district is also praised for using fresh foods from local farms.
School officials say the post was a surprise to them
One of the dishes highlighted in the article was Knox County's pizza. The school district developed its own, healthy recipe and branded it "Gianni's of Knoxville." The pizza is New York style, with a homemade sauce that has lots of vitamin A and is lower in sodium.
