A new UT study finds a chemical in antibacterial soaps may harm nursing babies.

The chemical called triclocarban is found primarily in antibacterial bar soaps.

The study, conducted on rats, found that rats nursed by mothers that were exposed to the compound did not survive beyond the sixth day after birth.

Researchers say that means in humans, a mother's long-term use and exposure to the chemical could affect her baby's development early in life.
