This picture shows Rosa Parks visiting the Highlander Research and Education Center.
The Highlander Research and Education Center was founded in the 1930's.
Both blacks and whites would gather and talk out social problems. Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. are two of many prominent civil rights figures who visited the organization.
The center, which is now located in New Market in Jefferson County, Tennessee, continues to bring together workers, grassroots leaders, community organizers, educators and researchers to address the most pressing social problems facing the peoples of the South.
The HREC offers everything from day camps to lodging.
