A multi-million dollar business deal aims to help both a health care provider and Knox County education.

Tuesday, Hillcrest Health Care representatives handed over a nearly $5.3 million check to Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett. Hillcrest is buying three assisted living centers it runs from the county.

Mayor Burchett says the money will go directly to paying for Carter Elementary school. Both he and Hillcrest's president say it's a win for both sides.

"It's great, it's great for the taxpayers outside of the Carter Elementary school thing which is something that's been great. It reduces the taxpayers' liability," said Burchett.

"Now that we own the properties, we'll be able to invest money in the properties to improve them and improve the lives of our citizens," said Hillcrest President Jim Murphy.

Hillcrest now owns the assisted living centers on Beverly Park Circle, Hillwood Drive, and Middlebrook Pike.
