The Red Cross expects that $35,000 to $45,000 will be needed to help families who have lost everything in a deadly Knoxville apartment fire Thursday morning.

The money will be used to shelter people for Thursday night and the next several nights.

It will also go for food, clothes, and medicine for the victims.

To donate, call 865-584-2999 or go to www.knoxarc.org.

The Red Cross said it will open a shelter for fire victims at the City on a Hill Church at 6:00 p.m. in Knoxville Center Mall.

The Salvation Army identified another need Thursday.

Yvonne Yates said they were seeking furniture donations, dishes, and household items for the victims.

"If any of you are planning on cleaning out your garage, spare room or storage space, now is the time," Yates said in an email.

Call the Salvation Army at 524-1329 to have your items picked up, or donate at the downtown location.
