Icy road conditions caused a three-car crash on I-75 in Kentucky that shut down the interstate for hours.

According to Kentucky State Police, the accident was reported just before 4:30 pm at milemarker 28 in Laurel County.

Investigators said William B. Smith, 51, of Gate City, Virginia, was driving a 2000 International Cargo Tanker when he lost control.  He hit a white car driven by Lisa G. Estep, 49, of Corbin. That impact sent Estep's vehicle into a Ford Thunderbird driven by Shirley M. Laing, 53, of Woodbine.

Laing was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The impact damaged the tanker, spilling several thousand gallons of fuel oil onto the interstate causing a several hour road closure while clean-up crews worked to clean the fuel from the roadway.
