A remote area medical clinic in Claiborne County has opened its doors for patients seeking free medical care.
Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate opened promptly at 6:00 a.m. Saturday. Patients lined up hours before it opened for free care which included medical, vision, and dental work. More than 600 patients took advantage of that free care.
According to doctors, the number of people needing care in East Tennessee continues to rise. Doctors say they're happy to lend a hand.
"I had one guy just come by and give me a hug a few minutes ago [after] he had got his glasses," said Ron Brewer, the Rural Director of RAM. Brewer said the man was so happy because he could read his medical form.
The free clinic continues Sunday morning. Patients should go to the lower level of Tex Turner Arena. The parking lot will open at midnight. Organizers will start handing out numbers 3:30 a.m. The doors open at 6:00 p.m.
Organizers say everyone who stood in line before the doors opened Saturday made it in the building by morning.
