Knoxville Police have arrested a man for posting an ad on Craigslist, then allegedly robbing the people who responded to the ad.

John Comerford, 30, is charged with two counts of theft and one count of robbery. He is being held on a $28,000 bond.

Police say Comerford posted an ad on Craigslist that indicated he had a set of chrome rims for sale. In at least three situations, he met individuals who responded to his ad. In two of those cases, the man took the victims' cash and never returned. In the other, he robbed the victim using physical force.

Investigators with KPD's Repeat Offender Squad and Property Crimes Unit made contact with Comerford through the ad and set up a time to meet and purchase the advertised rims.

Comerford told an undercover officer that he would meet him at a business on Broadway and then take him to his apartment to get the rims. The officer, with heavy surveillance, picked up Comerford and took him to the apartment, where officers took him into custody.

Investigators said Comerford confessed to the crimes while being interviewed at the Safety Building.
