No charges will be filed in connection with a school bus accident in April that killed a Greeneville seventh grader.

Austin Baughard, 12, was killed on April 12 when he was run over as he approached the bus.

The accident was reported at 6:49 a.m. at the intersection of Holder Road and Snapps Ferry Road.

The report noted that Baughard was not supposed to be on the bus that day. He had been suspended from riding the bus that week.

The driver, 62-year-old Ronnie Whitson, told investigators the boy's sister got on the bus and he watched her in the rear view mirror as she walked to the back to take a seat. He said before she sat down, she said, "Wait, my brother is coming."

The driver stated that he started to drive away and thought he hit a dog. When he backed up, he found the boy.

The initial Tennessee Highway Patrol report indicated that charges were pending against Whitson, but after concluding the investigation, THP decided not to place charges and closed the case.

Baughard was a seventh grader at Chuckey-Doak Middle School.
