A Hawkins County teenager is in trouble for trying to close his school.
According to the Hawkins County Sheriff's Department, on February 4, two emails were sent to WBIR and two tv stations in the Tri-Cities, reading "Hawkins County Schools will be CLOSED Tuesday, February 5, 2013." The emails appeared to be from school officials, who said they did not send the emails.
An investigator began looking into the emails, and tracked down a 17-year-old boy who admitted he had used an internet email spoofing site to pretend to be the school officials and send the emails.
The teen is charged with 2 counts of Criminal Impersonation.
The teen's efforts to get the school closing on television failed, because WBIR and other tv stations have protocols known only to school administrators to keep incorrect information from being broadcast.
