According to the Chronicle of Philanthropy, Tennessee is one of the top five most giving states in the country.
A recent string of disasters, including the Oklahoma tornadoes, the Boston bombing and the fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas, has people across the country reaching for their wallets to help.
Just last month, East Tennesseans donated more than $21,000 to the Red Cross for tornado relief in Oklahoma during a fundraiser on Channel 10.
The Chronicle lists Utah as the most giving state. Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and South Carolina round out the top five with people giving between 7.2 percent and 6.4 percent of annual income.
