This week, the Tennessee Department of Transportation released an alternate route for the proposed James White Parkway extension. It's meant to answer the concerns of critics.
TDOT says the new "modified green alternative" minimizes the impact of the urban wilderness while reducing residential and business relocations.
TDOT also says it will host a series of public meetings on October to get comments on the new proposal before making any decisions about the extension. We haven't heard when those meetings will be yet.
Mayor Madeline Rogero has said she opposes any extension of the road, while Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett says he could approve the new proposal, as long as everyone agrees.
City Councilman and Deputy Mayor Nick Pavlis joined us in the 10News studio with more on the proposed plan. You can watch that entire conversation in the video above.
