A former Union County commissioner who pleaded guilty to buying votes was sentenced to 21 months in jail on Thursday.
71-year-old Charlie Edward Cox pleaded guilty tobuying votes during a 2006 election. Cox admitted he drove six people to the polling location, paid them $10 each, and told them which candidate to vote for. Prosecutors said he also tried to obstruct the investigation by discouraging witnesses from talking to law enforcement.
Cox will begin serving his sentence immediately.
