Western Ave. Courtesy TDOT
As TDOT embarks on a nearly three-year, $30 million dollar project to widen Western Avenue (Highway 62), they have created a website to keep people informed about the progress.
The project will reconstruct the existing two lane roadway to a five-lane facility beginning at Schaad Road and extending approximately 3.9 miles to Copper Kettle Road. When complete, the road will consist of four 12 foot traffic lanes, a 12 foot center lane, 10 foot outside shoulders, curb & gutter, and 5 foot wide sidewalks.
APAC-Atlantic, Inc. of Knoxville has the contract on the $31.4 million dollar project, which is set to be completed in December of 2013.
Included on the website are project facts, contact information, and frequently asked questions. As the project progresses, the website will be updated with information on what has been accomplished and what work lies ahead. Those interested in the project are encouraged to check back often for current project information.
