Charges have now been filed in the beating of a Sevier County Jail inmate.

According to Sheriff Ron Seals, a Sevier County Grand Jury indicted Edmund Walter Dahm, 39, on one count of Aggravated Assault on Monday.

On June 6, Seals says Dahm assaulted Ronald L. McDaniel inside the jail.  McDaniel was injured and taken to UT Medical Center.

McDaniel's family says he is in critical condition and is now a quadriplegic and is on a ventilator.  They also allege that jail guards left him lying on the floor for hours before getting him medical treatment.

The FBI has opened an investigation into the incident, to determine if if guards at the jail committed Color of Laws abuses. Those are violations of McDaniel's civil rights that could include denying him medical attention.  That investigation could take several months.
