Seven women had a night to remember on Thursday evening. The YWCA held the 27th Tribute to Women Awards honoring those who are role models in three categories, equality, empowerment and transformation.
In all, 17 women in professions ranging from healthcare to education were nominated, but only six which is two from each category were chose to recieve an award.
"I do what I do because I love it, I don't expect an award, but its truly an honor to be noticed, thanks to the YWCA," said Donna Worthy of the Knoxville Area Urban League.
"We feel that this event is important to recognize women, to inspire others to get involved in the community, and showcase the passion and workforce of women we have in East Tennessee," explained Danielle Benson of the YWCA.
The YWCA awarded former Knox County Commissioner Mary Lou Horner the Lifetime Achievement award. She was unable to attend, so her son accepted the award on her behalf.
