An East Tennessee Fire Department is getting some much needed new gear thanks to a generous donation.
Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation donated five full sets of protective turn-out gear to the Northview Kodak Fire Department on Tuesday.
The gear is worth more than $9,000 and without the donation, would have been unavailable to the fire department because of a tight city budget. The new equipment will replace outdated gear.
"A lot of people look a it like it's just a jacket and a pair of pants, but in order to outfit a firefighter from head to toe, you're looking at approx. 2,200 to 2,300 dollars per person," said John Satterfield, Fire Chief for the Northview Kodak Fire Department.
Since 2005, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has donated more than $202,000 to public safety organizations in Tennessee.
