A couple of recent security scares at Knox County private schools have prompted extra steps to ensure student safety at another.
Investigators are looking into attempted kidnapping incidents in recent weeks at both Christian Academy of Knoxville and Grace Christian Academy.
After hearing about those incidents, administrators at Sacred Heart Cathedral School reviewed their safety polices and made a few adjustments. When parents pick up their children from school, they will use new family name cards which contain a special identifying logo created to be difficult to duplicate.
"Safety, for a school, is the first priority. It is of the utmost importance because parents are entrusting their children to us on a daily basis. We are taking the place of them for 8 hours. So we have their most precious treasure, their children, and we have to protect them in every way that we can," said Sedona Prater, Principal for Sacred Heart Cathedral School.
The school is also encouraging parents to develop a family code word and talk with their children about the potential dangers of interacting with strangers.
