MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Two major hospitals in Tennessee have teamed up to fight cancer in a collaboration that will allow doctors in Memphis and Nashville to pool resources and share research.
The Commercial Appeal reports Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp. and Vanderbilt University Medical Center signed an affiliation deal on Monday.
For cancer patients at Baptist in Memphis, their doctors will have access to Vanderbilt's extensive clinical knowledge and more treatment options. Baptist has been increasing its cancer services and adding oncologists and surgeons in advance of a proposed plan to build a new Baptist Center for Cancer Care in Germantown.
The two programs will be able to cooperate on clinical trials, share cancer tissue to advance personalized medicine, hold joint conferences with physicians and offer fellowship programs in oncology.
