Lines wrapped around local Gamestops Monday evening in anticipation of the latest video game in the Call of Duty series, Black Ops 2.
Black Ops 2 was released at midnight and is expected to reach hundreds of millions of dollars in sales.
In the video game world, fans say this is the moment they've been looking forward to all year. The game is a shooter combat game set in wartime -- past, present, and even fantasy future.
Just like their counterparts who waited for the Harry Potter books and Twilight movies, gamers loyally log hours and hours in line and contribute to a big business.
For a little comparison:
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 brought in $168.6 million on opening weekend
- The Avengers opened to $200 million.
- The last Call of Duty release, Modern Warfare 3, made more than $400 million on its first day of sales in 2011.
And, online retailer Amazon tweeted that Black Ops 2 is the most pre-ordered game, ever.
Those devoted few with midnight copies will likely play though the night. A lot of people are serious about taking a vacation day, or maybe a sick day, on Tuesday to play.
