Despite media reports to the contrary, multiple sources close to UT's head coaching search tell WBIR contributors at Volquest.com that Jon Gruden has declined to talk to Tennessee about taking over the embattled football program.
In a report by John Brice and Brent Hubbs on VolQuest.com, sources say Gruden was never presented with a contract, and there have been no financial details discussed.
"We reached out to coach Gruden. Coach Gruden after visiting with his
family informed us that it was not a move his family wanted to make at
this time. He declined to meet with Tennessee. Financial considerations
were never discussed," a University source told Volquest Friday morning.
Who could be UT's next football coach?
The news comes after a Friday report in the Chattanooga Times Free Press that alleged Gruden was considering an offer. Earlier this week, a Memphis TV station reported that Gruden had been offered partial ownership of the Cleveland Browns as part of a compensation package with UT. Gruden and the Browns both denied that reporter. The Browns' new owner, Jimmy Haslam, is a well-known Vol booster.
