George Quarles got beat by his own game. The coach who loves to take chances, got beat by a two-point conversion in overtime. Whitehaven defeated the Rebels in the 6A State Championship Game, 36-35.

In OT, Maryville scored first with a short touchdown run by Shawn Prevo. Whitehaven answered a with a touchdown a few plays later. But instead of tying the game up and kicking the extra point, Whitehaven went for the 2-point conversion. They converted and handed the Rebels their first loss in 43 games.

Whitehaven must have taken a play about of the Quarles handbook, because he called the same play in the final minute of regulation. Maryville scored to get within one with under a minute left, and instead of tying thing up with the extra point, he also went for two. Maryville converted on a pass to Nick Myers, but the play was called back for an ineligible receiver. After the penalty, Maryville decided to just go for the PAT.
