Monday is Martin Luther King Day, and all week long, folks in Knoxville are celebrating the life of the historical leaders.

Folks gathered at the Black Cultural Exchange in Downtown Knoxville Friday for a community forum to celebrate King's life. The theme of the event was "What I Learned from Dr. King."

People who actually met King spoke, along with those who were inspired by his work and speeches. It was also a time for the community to connect.

"People come from all parts of the community and we just have a chance to be together, to eat together, to sing a little bit, but mostly to sit around the tables and talk to each other which is sort of a rare thing in our culture," said Ralph Hutchison, coordinator for the Oak Ridge Environmental Peace Alliance.

Other Martin Luther King events continue through the weekend.

The annual march in his honor is set for Monday at 11 a.m. It begins at Tabernacle Baptist Church in East Knoxville.
