The flu is affecting about 200,000 Catholics in south-west Florida as the church makes an effort to stop the spread of the virus.

At Saint Andrews Catholic Church in Cape Coral, no wine during communion and no hand shaking until further notice.

Parishioners are even being asked not to come to mass if they are feeling sick.

The Diocese of Venice is asking its churches in the ten county region of southwest Florida to suspend these traditions to prevent the spread of the flu.

Diocese officials say the restrictions will last until the flu outbreak settles down.
