Knox County gets surprise $118K revenue boost

Knox County got a surprise boost in revenue this month when a credit card used for county purchases earned them $118,000 more in cash back rebates than anticipated.

Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett says he'll recommend putting the toward retiring county debt.

According to Communciations Manager Michael Grider, the mayor's administration consolidated purchasing programs when he took office, resulting in more expenses being put on a Suntrust Visa card.

The county earned a total of $318,000 cash back this calendar year, according to Grider.

That's $118,000 more than they expected based on previous years.
