Work to expand a popular downtown Knoxville parking garage will result in even fewer parking spaces, for now.
The city is building another level on the State Street garage, which will add about 250 parking spaces.
Part of the garage has been closed off for weeks, while crews complete work involving a large crane, but city officials say they've had issues with people parking or walking in closed areas of the garage.
Those issues led to delays in the work, which put the project at risk of getting behind schedule.
City officials now say they will have to close off an entire half of the garage, in order to comply with safety requirements.
On March 5, the crane will move to South Central Street, and the other half of the garage will be closed off.
Officials hope to be able to reopen the garage some time in April, and have all the work completed by June.
