Some of Knox County's most outstanding educators were applauded Thursday as the district honored teachers of the year from each school.

They also recognized three teachers for the county-wide title-- one from an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school.

Officials say each one of them has proven they are dedicated to teaching.

"My colleagues are so very dear to me, my students are precious to me. I can't think of no other way to be more highly honored than by the people you work with and the people you love," said Kitty Menhinick from AL Lotts Elementary.

"It feels like I've won the lottery every day when I see a student take responsibility for their own learning or when I see them start growing as a learner," said Beth Barlow from Holston Middle.

"The teachers of Knox County are dedicated and caring, and I feel honored to be part of such an elite group of teachers," said Wanda Lacy from Farragut High.

Teachers of the year are selected by their colleagues for the annual honors.
