While the stars were shining in California, Knoxville rolled out the red carpet for some fun of its own.

"We're celebrating the Oscars in Knoxville fashion!" said Michael Samstag, Executive Director of Knoxville 24 Hour Film Festival.

The film festival group decked out Union Place in Old City with a red carpet, a limo, and a life sized Oscar award and invited guests to dress to the nines for the "Knoscar" awards. Gowns, tuxes, and sparkling jewelry filled the night as the Knoscar nominees posed for pictures and gave fake acceptance speeches. But there was a little more than Oscar buzz excitement in the air, with the announcement of a big change coming to the 24 Hour Film Festival.

"This is sort of kick off for festival season for us, and this is really a fundraiser for Knoxville films and what will now become Knoxville Film and Music festival!" stated Samstag on the red carpet.

This will be the film festival's fourth year and it will kick off June 1st. Filmmaking teams will have 24 hours to create a four minute film, and they will then be screened on June 15th. Samstag says this year's festival will include nightly concerts and films, along with an all day outdoor concert.

"We've always been promoting local music during our festival, but now we're just going to go right out and say it's a film and music festival."

Samstag says that they are still in negotiation with local bands that will be participating, but he says the festival will include local, regional, and national acts.
