As Knoxville Restaurant Week winds down, the dollars are already starting to add up for Second Harvest Food Bank. Wednesday morning, Puleo's Grill donated $1,200 to Second Harvest.
This year, Sysco Foods gave every restaurant participating in the fundraiser $200 for groceries. Puleo Grill's general manager decided instead of using the money at all six stores, he would donate it.
This money is in addition to what the restaurant will contribute when the week is over. $5 from every meal sold from a predetermined menu will go to the food bank.
"You come here, for $25 you get a fantastic spread. You eat an entree and you donate $5; it feeds 15 people," said Teri Lux with Second Harvest. "If you go as a couple, that's 30 meals provided for the hungry in the 18 counties we serve. So, this is very much a successful event for Second Harvest and we hope it is as successful for the restaurants as it is for us."
