Five people sentenced for poaching Morgan Co. elk

Five East Tennesseans will not have to spend anytime behind bars after reaching a plea agreement in connection with the poaching death on an elk in Morgan County.

Kenneth Kelly of Oliver Springs, Austin Woodall of Oliver Springs, Steven Daughtry of Petros, Samantha McColl of Oliver Springs and Donovan Godwin of Coalfield were facing several charges including hunting and killing an elk during a closed season, illegal possession of a wild elk and criminal conspiracy.

TWRA investigator, Travis Buchanan, said that an elk was shot by by a .44 magnum rifle and a 12 gauge shotgun on December 21, 2012 in the Prudential Hollow area located between Coalfield and Oliver Springs.

As a result of the plea agreements between the 5, they received $28,000 in fines and court costs and had their hunting privileges suspended suspended for 18 years.
