An East Tennessee fishing tournament is expected to bring hundreds of thousands of dollars to the region once it kicks off Thursday.
The Bass Pro Shops PAA Tournament will host the first leg of its series on Douglas Lake in Dandridge. This will be the first time the event will have been held in Jefferson County.
More than 100 anglers and co-anglers from across the region will participate in the competition. Jefferson County Tourism Director Adele Sensing said the tournament is expected to initially bring at least $300,000 to the area.
"It's tremendous to have all of these people coming to the community," she said.
And, she's not the only person who feels that way.
Bass Pro Shops, the tournament's sponsor, said they expect their sales to go up 25 to 30 percent during the competition. Dandridge General Store owner Barbara Garrow also told 10News she is hoping her business will see some of the same customers who visited during the B.A.S.S. Elite Tournament in Dandridge last year.
"It was really pretty busy, there were a lot of families that accompanied the fishermen," she said.
The tournament's winners will be crowned Saturday at Bass Pro Shops in Kodak. Then, next Thursday, Jefferson County will restart the process and host the Bass Southern Open.
