Campbell man jailed after meth lab experiment blew up in his face

A Campbell County man who says he was trying out a new method of making meth caused an explosion that injured him and started a fire that damaged his mother's home.

Randall Scott Johnson, 38, of LaFollette, faces drug and arson charges after the fire that happened on March 28.

According to the arrest report, Johnson told investigators that he was making meth for his personal use in an outbuilding near his mother's mobile home when the bottle blew up.  Johnson suffered a flash burn on his face, neck, arms, and hands.  The fire destroyed the outbuilding and damaged the siding on the mobile home.

Officers found several ingredients used in the making of meth and the receipts for those products in the home, and Johnson admitted he bought them.

Johnson told investigators that he was trying out a new method for manufacturing meth when the explosion happened.
