Knoxville Police say a New York man drove himself to the hospital with a gunshot wound early Thursday and reported someone had fired shots into the cab of his semi.
Police officers were called to Physicians Regional Medical Center around 2:30 a.m. after a man walked into the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his lower chest.
The victim, Matthew Harrison, 47, of Mount Vernon, NY told police he parked his truck in the Amvets parking lot at 4105 Holston Drive to take a nap.
Harrison said he woke up to a knock on the cab door. A man asked for a cigarette and when Harrison told the man that he didn't have any, the suspect fired shots into the cab.
One of the bullets hit Harrison in the lower chest.
Investigators later found several cartridge casings in the parking lot. They also spoke with a couple of women in the area who indicated that had brief contact with a possible suspect before the shooting.
