After a national search, the Knoxville Zoo Board of Directors named Lisa New as its executive director.
New's served as the interim executive director since the start of the year. She took over when Jim Vlna retired.
Before that, she was the senior director of animal collections and conservation at the zoo. She has worked with the zoo since 1990, and holds a master's degree in ethology from the University of Tennessee.
New is the fifth executive director in the zoo's 65-year history.
