Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - A.J. Griffin tossed his first career shutout
and Josh Donaldson hit a three-run homer as the Oakland Athletics blanked the
Cincinnati Reds, 5-0, to complete the sweep in a brief, two-game interleague
Griffin, who earned his first win since May 25 and snapped a five-game
winless streak, shined while striking out seven and allowing just two hits.
The righty also surrendered two walks -- both coming in the first inning --
but escaped by fanning Todd Frazier and cruised the rest of the game.
Donaldson also hit a two-run homer in Tuesday's 7-3 series opening win, while
Brandon Moss and Nate Freiman also drove in a run for the Athletics.
Homer Bailey (4-6) absorbed the loss, tossing six frames of six-hit, four-run
ball while also striking out seven for Cincinnati, which has dropped five of
six. Xavier Paul had a double and Devin Mesoraco added a single to account
for the Reds' only offense.
