The Girl Scout Council of the Southern Appalachians donated more than 5,000 boxes of cookies to Second Harvest of East Tennessee on Thursday.

From Thin Mints to Shortbread to Peanut Butter Patties, the donation helps feed food pantry clients while making sure leftover boxes don't go to waste.

Pilot Flying J helps support the donation by covering the cost of the unsold boxes.

In total, nearly 10,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies will be donated to food banks across the region.
