A police chase through three counties with large stolen truck ending with a crash is enough to make news, but police say the driver in Wednesday morning's chase was just 12 years old.
It all started in Morristown after midnight. Police say two boys from a Greeneville children's home were in town for a counseling session. They allegedly ran away, and stole a tractor truck from Universal Forest Products that had the keys inside.
After ramming the truck through a gate, the 12-year-old led police on a chase on highway 11-E into Jefferson County.
New Market police threw out spike strips, puncturing a tire on the truck, but police say the boys kept going, with speeds up to 65 miles an hour, eventually making it all the way to Knoxville.
After turning onto Rutledge Pike, the truck crashed. Only then did officers discover how young the driver was.
Both boys were arrested. The 12-year-old faces 10 separate charges, including a felony.
