Memphis city schools are already increasing security measures a day after a 5-year-old brought a gun to school that accidentally went off in his backpack.
Friday the school's superintendent said security officers gave out hand-held metal detecting wands to some elementary schools.
High schools in Memphis already use metal detectors, but the security is a first for grade schools.
Also Friday, Memphis police said they will not file charges against neither the kindergartner nor the student's parents.
Nobody was hurt when the gun discharged.
