Investigators found Roberts had used the district's credit card for personal purchases dating back to January 2005, using the general category "employee accounts receivable."
(WBIR-Clinton, Tn) The former president of the Clinch-Powell Utility District has reached a plea deal after being charged with stealing thousands of dollars for his personal use.
Del Ray Roberts was sentenced to 10 years, but only has to spend 10 days behind bars. The rest will be served on probation. He will also have to perform 40 hours of community service in each of those years.
Roberts pleaded guilty to fraudulent use of a credit card and theft.
He was accused of charging more than $95,000 dollars to the utility's credit card over the last five years for things such as a Carnival cruise, a Disney World vacation, college tuition and even a medical procedure.
