Opponents to a new Tennova hospital in West Knoxville voiced their concerns Thursday at a city council workshop.
City council recently delayed the first reading of the Middlebrook Pike rezoning ordinance until September 17th. So at the workshop, concerned neighbors who live near the proposed site voiced their opinions once again.
They say it could cause more traffic, more lighting, and more noise disruptions in their neighborhood. And with Tennova in the midst of a merger and a recent round of layoffs, opponents say the company's future is too unsettled to act.
"Council should defer anything until the future of the company is clear. People who made the presentation may not even have a job. I don't wish them ill but that's just the fact," said Rocky Swingle.
The council plans on taking up the proposal in the next couple of weeks.
