A number of local ministers and religious leaders from around the state called on the governor Thursday to expand the state's Medicaid program.

The religious leaders sang and prayed at the steps of the War Memorial Building in Nashville.

Governor Haslam voted against expanding the program earlier this year, but with the president's health care law taking affect in January, leaders are asking the governor to change his mind.

The leaders say their message goes back to lessons learned in the Bible.

Instead of expanded Medicaid, the governor opted for a private insurance model. He says that would cover tens of thousands of uninsured people in the state.

State leaders are still hashing out the details with federal regulators.
