Mossy Grove, Morgan County after the 2002 tornado
"It looks like Mother Nature took a broom and just swept it away - houses, vehicles, farms, barns - everything that could be. Just swept away."
That's one eye-witness account of the heartbreaking destruction left in Mossy Grove, Morgan County back in 2002. An EF3 tornado hit the town on a Sunday night. When the sun rose the following morning, residents realized much of their community was gone.
It took months for Mossy Grove to recover and while not everyone rebuilt, many homeowners did. Some even built new homes in the same place as their previous houses.
In all, seven people died in Mossy Grove. The same storm also killed four people in Cumberland County. More than a decade later, the story of the lives lost and how the community rebuilt together remains one of your "Straight from the Heart" Moments.
