A boy whose ears were torn off by an attacking dog in Cocke County was listed in stable condition at UT Medical Center Friday morning.

He had been listed in serious condition Thursday.

According to investigators, the attack happened on Wednesday evening.

The Cocke County Sheriff's Office said a pit bull bit 10-year-old Brandon Williams on Branch Drive while he was delivering a package to his neighbor's home.

A report filed by investigators said the boy's ears were bitten off in the attack.

Cocke County Sheriff Armando Fontes had deputies on the property again on Thursday looking for more dogs. They found six.

"When these dogs are let go to run loose, they form a pack and a pack is established and you end up having a hierarchy in the pack and some of the dogs become very aggressive," he said.

Fontes also said another child witnessed the attack.

"This has been a very traumatic experience for those kids, they're every much afraid of what's going on," he said.

Fontes is now working to provide a counseling service to children in the neighborhood.

The Sheriff's Office said the dog's owners, Jennifer Switzler and Anthony Lugar, were arrested and charged with allowing an animal to run at large which resulted in serious bodily injury.

Williams is a neighbor of Switzler and Lugar.
