Two giant wheels could be a part of Pigeon Forge's skyline in the future.
Developers with The Island at Pigeon Forge said they have received city approval to raise a skywheel by next spring. Chance Rides out of Texas is creating the 200-foot tall structure which will arrive at the planned development this summer or fall for assembly.
"There is going to be 42 gondolas that will be air conditioned and each gondola will be fully enclosed," said Todd Redd with The Island at Pigeon Forge.
Chance Rides said the Island's skywheel will be very similar to this wheel they created.
The Island at Pigeon Forge is located off Smoky Drive in Pigeon Forge.
The other proposed wheel is planned for Community Center Drive, less than one minute away from the other skywheel.
Pacific Development said they own the skywheel in Myrtle Beach. They want to build a giant observation wheel on seven acres. The property would include a log flume, small roller coaster, a restaurant and an animated fountain.
"Then, we're going to do an amphitheater that will host concerts. We think there's a lot of talent up here, especially out of Nashville," said Todd Schneider with Pacific Development.
Schneider wants a wheel in place and running by this Fall. The company is currently seeking rezoning.
Pacific Development's plans are drawn out in detail on a website. Their ride and venue would be called 360 Smokies.
