Residents in West Knoxville have a new grocery store. Kroger opened its Kroger Marketplace at the Shops at Cedar Bluff, just off Kingston Pike.
Store managers held a ribbon cutting ceremony at its new store Wednesday morning.
Officials say the new store will employ 300 workers, 200 of which are new jobs in Knoxville.
Kroger donated $45,000 worth of school supplies to the local teacher supply depot to help the Knox County school system.
"We recognize there are economic challenges that some of our teachers are challenged to find the supplies that our kids need in the classroom. So we're happy to make the donation today," said Glynn Jenkins, Kroger director of communications.
Kroger also donated $32,000 to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
The Kroger Marketplace is 117,000 square feet. It features a Sun Trust Bank, a jewelry store, groceries, a fuel center, and specialty retail sections including an Ashley Furniture and expanded bed and bath items.
