Knox County held a luncheon Wednesday to honor those teachers and staff members who helped to make sure kids stay active and learn how to make healthy choices.

School officials also announced some good news when it comes to overweight students. The number of obese kids has gone down in Knox County compared to last year, and Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre says that will help them both in and out of the classroom.

"It's about our kids being healthy. It's about fighting childhood obesity," he said.

Genell Crawford of Gresham Middle School also received an honor for creating several exercise and walking programs, both before and after the school day.
