Knoxville Police say a car that lost control and crashed on Alcoa Highway Monday afternoon appeared to be racing another vehicle. Three people in that car were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, including a 3-year-old child.
The crash happened just after 2:00 pm in the north bound lanes of Alcoa Highway near the Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center.
Witnesses told investigators that the Honda Civic and a black Dodge Ram 1500 pickup were speeding and racing each other down Alcoa Highway. The car came upon a slower moving vehicle in the inside lane and attempted to dart between the truck and the slower car when the driver lost control.
The car hit the median wall then traveled across both north bound lanes of Alcoa Highway before slamming into a rock wall.
The driver of the Civic, Christopher Adam Beeler, 24, of Alcoa, and two passengers, Kayla Hatfield, 22, and a three year-old boy, were transported to UT Medical Center for treatment. Initial reports were that all three were seriously injured. KPD said all three were in stable condition at UT Medical Center Monday evening.

The Dodge truck did not stop and fled the scene.

A serious accident has shut down the north bound lanes of Alcoa Highway at Woodson Drive.
According to TDOT's website, the accident was reported at 2:00 pm on Monday.
Knoxville Police say the accident involved only one vehicle, and three people in that vehicle were transported to UT Medical Center with serious injuries.
